Porsche owners are devoted to the marque because of it's well earned reputation for building high performance racers (as well as street cars) which could outlast much larger and faster competitors, especially in the early days when the company was a very small enterprise. The Boxster's lineage traces back to the popular Porsche Speedster and more so to the factory race cars of the 1950's and early 1960's. These aluminum bodied Spyders", the 550, RSK and especially the RS-60 have body lines and mid-engine layouts that have clearly influenced the Boxster design.
